Teresa V. Martinez

Dear readers,

Spring is the time of year that invites us to enjoy the environment, outdoor activities and discover various places to visit. A great place to find out how much our area has to offer is the Visit Central Florida Welcome Center in Davenport. There they will find help planning fun-filled days, brochures and coupons for attractions, information on typical restaurants and even a taste of freshly squeezed orange juice. Upon arrival, your eyes will feast on one of the many murals by talented artist Gillian Fazio (on the cover). We urge you to take an excursion in search of his extraordinary urban works that beautify our cities.

As Viva Polk's Editor-in-Chief, I not only have the honor of leading a great team, but also the privilege of picking the right people. On this occasion, I take the liberty of paying tribute to my father, Dr. Luis J. Vázquez, for his extraordinary 100 years of life. He has been an example of dedication, tenacity, perseverance and trust in God to fulfill his purpose in life. At the same time, we honor the prolific Mutz family, headed by the Honorable Bill Mutz, Mayor of the City of Lakeland, whom I count among my good friends. I am sure that reading his interview will enrich the life of each reader.

We appreciate the support of our loyal readers, each of the sponsors who make this publication possible, and we welcome those who join our effort: Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine, Central Florida Speech and Hearing Center, Global Insurance and Planning Advisors , Smith Feddeler & Smith, PA, SPCA, and Perfect Weather Air Conditioning.

It is an honor to publish ¡Viva Polk! Your magazine in Spanish.

Sincerely,

Teresa Martínez

About Viva Polk

"¡Viva Polk!” is the result of our presence and the efforts of community leaders, such as Dr. Robert Melo and Tim Moore, who saw the need to have a Spanish magazine. They took the first steps publishing “El Trompetista,” relaunched as “¡Viva Polk!” Our most sincere gratitude. “¡Viva Polk!” is your magazine and a multicultural celebration. We invite you to participate. ¡Viva Spanish!  ¡Viva our multicultural! ¡VIVA POLK! VIVA POLK!
