Join one of the most dynamic 5-kilometer races in the Lakeland area, on Saturday 1 (1) April 2023 on the runways of Lakeland International Airport (LAL) during the famous Sun'n Fun Aerospace Exhibition, this year called The Magic of Aviation. Through the tour, runners will have the opportunity to see the U.S. demonstration team up close. Blue Angels and witness the launch of more than twenty (20) hot air balloons.
The purpose of the race is to raise funds to support the AeroClub of Lakeland, an aviation club for young people between 14 and 21 years of age. Membership is open to all those who express interest in aviation, demonstrate high moral principles and stand out academically. Members learn how to build, restore, pilot aircraft and practice in all aspects of aviation. As members of the Lakeland AeroClub, young people are responsible for maintaining the planes, the venue and the club's reputation.
The funds will also be allocated to Women in Aviation (WIA), a non-profit organization that aims to promote the cooperation, alliance and inclusion of women interested in aviation. WIA grants scholarships and provides the necessary opportunities for members to achieve their dreams of being pilots of commercial airlines, military flights, helicopters and seaplanes. Every day more and more women are interested in this field, including as aircraft mechanics, flight coaches, air accident investigators or heads of control towers.
